Hello together!
We wanted to do an upgrade from vCenterServer 5.1 to 6.0.
But we get an error after I have to enter the vCenter Server Credentials.
It is the following error:
Error: IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is present in certificate subject alt names but under DNS key.
This ip address cannot be used for installation.
Resolution: use an ip address or dns name that is present in the certificate subject alt names or regenerate ssl certificate for sso before continuing.
I have no idea what to do.
I'm hoping to get new HP DL360 G9 servers next year and put vSphere 6.x on them, the bugs should hopefully be fixed by then.
There's only one SD chip slot, sigh.
I'm wondering what size SD chips I should buy?? -- 32 GB or 64 GB??
I want to have some space for logs if needed though I'll try to redirect the logs to something/someplace else if possible.
I know ESXi needs a scratch partition and at least some log storage.
Does the SD chip speed make any difference??
I'm thinking good SanDisk SD chips, not HP's over-priced chips.
Thank you, Tom
P.S. Also looking for references on installing ESXi to the internal SD chip, I imagine it's the same as installing to a hard drive, let ESXi installer find the storage, do its thing.
I upgraded to vCenter 5.5 from 5.0 and I went to upgrade to 5.5 on one of the esxi hosts and the upgrade said it was successfully but when I rebooted it booted (or reverted) to 5.0.0. Any ideas what i can do to fix this? I was able to to upgrade another identical host successfully.
Hello,
I have little experience with storage EMC and I would have a couple of questions about the use of vSphere 5.5 with CLARiiON CX4 storage 120 and vnx5200.
Both the storage are connected fiber channel.
I have to update my infrastructure to vSphere 4.1 to vSphere 5.5.
My infrastructure is composed of 3 servers DELL, one CLARiiON CX4 120 and a EMC2 VNX5200.
First I saw that the Clariion CX4 storage 120 does not support VAAI with vSphere 5.5 while the storage vnx5200 supports it.
So, since I want to use archiving VAAI on VNX 5200 and I can not use it on the Clariion CX4 (as VAAI is not supported with vSphere 5.5).
I like I do?
I leave the failover mode to 1 for the CLARiiON CX4 120 and I configure the failover mode 4 for vnx5200?
It is correct to use the round robin for multipath for vnx5200?
I will use multipath vmware.
It makes sense to set iops from 1000 to 1 as per article vmwarehttp://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2069356 ?
If I leave the failovermode 1 for clariion CX4-120 emc and then as multipath should I choose MRU is a solution supported by EMC in vSphere 5.5?
Thank you
Greetings
Can anyone verify some SQL requirements for me. I'm building out a vSphere environment and am using a SQL server to host the vCenter, SRM and VRMS databases.
The vCenter documentation states that the SQL TCP Dynamic ports should be enabled.
The VRMS documentation states that named or default SQL instance can be used, but if dynamic ports are used then a named instance must be used.(not sure if this is a SQL condition or vMware)
So to satisfy both of these criteria it looks like I need a named SQL instance with Dynamic ports enabled. Have I got that correct?
Hello, I upgrade my vcenter from 5.1 to 5.5. I found some expired certificate here:
When I try to delete it, I just get "certificate removal did not succeed". I cannot remember where this certificate from. It could be my test with LDAPS connection with AD at version 5.1.
I think this certificate is useless any more. How can I remove it.
Another question - the local domain of SSO in 5.1 is "system-domain". It still exists after upgrade to 5.5. Is it possible to remove this domain too?
I have a new server and I am trying to install ESXi 6 but when I get to select the drive section I get this issue:

I have 7.25 TB drive in there and I have read that 2 years ago ESXi could not read anything over 2TB is that still true? If not does anyone know what my issue might be?
We have ESXi 5.5 U2 systems that have not been patched in a few years. Would you advise to patch these systems using the patches listed in VMware Update Manager or upgrade the hosts to ESXi 5.5 U3? Thank you.
Can someone point me in the direction of how to upgrade from vSphere free to vSphere Essentials Plus? I am fairly new to vSphere in the setup process.
does vmware only support psc HA only ith F5 and citrix netscaler? how about A10 or other LBs?
Hello,
I've been trying to do the upgrade in the topic and fails every time from the GUI.
I updated my host running ESX 4.0 to ESX 4.1 update 2...and have been down ever since..
Call "PropertyCollector.CreateFilter" for object "ha-property-collector" on ESX "XX.XXX.XXX.XXX failed."
After googling for three straight days...no luck. Even have a support request with VMWare, but thought I would reach out here as well.
Anyone...? Before I reinstall...
Hi guys,
I'm new in VMware and now encounter the issue of ESXi installation, please have your advice.
The testing DUT which is using Intel® Xeon® E3 1105 v2 CPU, 8GB DDR3 x2 (with ECC) RAM, and 32GB SSD storage. The installed ESXi is 5.5 version.
The initialization is okay in the beginning, unit to process the disk formatting and install the ESXi, the purple diagnostic screens are shown.
Have any suggestion?
Thanks
Hello there,
We have an existing VMware HA infrastructure (2 servers with different locations which are already running esx with HA for failover). Every server has 4 physical network interfaces; every interface is used.
There is also a standalone ESXi Host on which is running one virtual machine. This virtual machine needs his own physical network for laser cad machines, we call this "laser network". Now we would like to migrate this single VM to the HA infrastructure.
So now my question is the following: Is it possible to user VMware HA / Failover with just one network card on each server? We've planned to install a PCI network Card on every HA Server for the "laser network" (Because on the two VMware "HA Server" every network interface is already used).
Is there an official document from VMware which I possibly could find the requirements?
Thanks for your response in advance.
Sincerely
Hi Guys,
Could any one of you please assist on the below,
For your kind information, VM already have one virtual hard disk of 400 GB
one of the client tried to add virtual hard disk of 300 GB on the VM from the edit settings and choose the option" Use an existing virtual hard disk" to add.
after adding,by mistake removed the virtual hard disk of 400GB from the datastore
Now the issue is not able to power on the VM, it returns with the error " vmdk file not found"
Please advise on the further troubleshooting
Thanks in advance
Much appreciate your help
Regards,
Vick
Trying to install 5.1 or 5.5 on a Lenovo M78. I put a compatible network card and it install with no error. Then I reboot the computer and get Error 1962 No operating system found. I found this on Lenovo site ( POST 1962 Error after installing VMWare ESXi - ThinkCentre, ThinkStation ) and did what it said with no change. Has anyone ran into this and got fix for it.
I have a HP DL360 G5 with two nics.
What I am trying to get is Internet Access to all my VMs.
I am making a test lab that I do not want talk with my corp network.
I installed esxi 5.1.0X
vswitch0 has VM Network on it and Management Network with vmnic0 as the physical adapter
vmnic0 is the Management nic with IP 10.10.180.5 subnet 255.255.255.0 no gateway
I have a Domain control and exchange server for test purposes.
the physical nic is plug in to a 8 port Switch so I can plug laptops in to and they pull IP from the domain controller just fine so that's all good.
I need Internet access to do some updates on the servers so I need get them some access.
Now I have a spare internet connection that hands out IPs like 96.185.50.X
I plug that in vmnic1 the spare Internet access but no IP is assigned to it.
It created a Vswitch1 with VM Network 2 and vmnic2 is the Physical Adapter
How do I assign an IP the the second NIC and how do route Internet traffic between the vSwitches so the VM on other VM Network can get internet Access
Is this even possible?
Thanks
does rebooting a vcenter or if a vcenter is down affect existing port channels created with the web client? what happens to the port channel when vcenter i ddown?
I am trying to install the first vCenter server in our organization and it keeps failing with the error "Could not contact Lookup Service. Please check VM_ssoreg.log in system temporary folder for details". I checked the system temporary folder and there is no such file that is created but there was one called vminst.log. In the file I found the following but I am unable to figure out how to resolve the problem:
VMware VirtualCenter-build-1123961: 08/07/13 08:40:03 Please see vm_ssoreg.log in system temporary folder
VMware VirtualCenter-build-1123961: 08/07/13 08:40:03 SSO registration tool failed with return code 2
VMware VirtualCenter-build-1123961: 08/07/13 08:40:03 Getting Property UILevel = 5
VMware VirtualCenter-build-1123961: 08/07/13 08:40:03 Getting Property ProductName = VMware vCenter Server
I am trying to install on Server 2008R2 STD 64 BIT, and have done the following to try a debug the problem:
1. Server is part of Active Directory and the FQDN can be successfully resolved using nslookup.
2. Server time is correct.
3. Manually added the machine name to the host file
4. Tried install using 5.1 Update 1b
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
