Migrate to New vCenter In a Nexus 1000v World

Greetings all.  I'm looking for some discussion, opinions, & feedback here.

We have a rather large virtualcenter with quite a few hosts, datacenters, clusters, vms, permissions, etc... It's been around for quite a few years now.  We are in the early stages of a potential vSphere 5 upgrade; however, we are thinking we might light to start as fresh as possible with a new clean database.

As such, we were thinking about building up a new virtualcenter, migrate to it, then upgrade to vsphere 5 (or the reverse-- point is having a relatively new db along with a new vsphere 5 upgrade).

I came across a nice script on these forums that does the migration on a cluster-by-cluster basis.  Exports folders & permissions, disconnects hosts & reconnects to new VC, reapplies folders & permissions, etc...  What we are unclear about is how this might play out with us being on the 1000v.  Can a 1000v host built under a VSM in the source VC work in the new VC w/o the VSM being there yet?  Do the VSM VMs need to be moved first, etc...

Lots of brain drain trying to figure this one out on what's the best practice or best way of going about this.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
