VMware Tools installation vmware-config-tools.pl Error Unable to find kernel module dependency file

Hello,

I am new to the forums, for forgive me if I do not supply all information right from the start.

I need to install VMware Tools back onto 3 of my SUSE Linux 11 servers.  VMware tools had previously been installed, but some work done on the system recently by our consultant which resulted in the tools no longer being installed.

The install seems to have succeeded as uname -r reveals the correct package. However, the command vmware-config-tools.pl fails with "Warning: Couldn't open directory /lib/modules/3.0.101-107-default: No such file or directory. Fatal: Could not open /lib/modules/3.0.101-107-default/modules.dep.temp for writing: No such file or directory  Unable to find kernel module dependency file .Execution aborted"

I checked the /lib/modules and there are no folders or files there from the install even though the install said it was successful.

I am running the commands as root in a Gnome terminal; I used YAST2/ Software Management to install the C/C++ Compiler and Tools; from the vsphere web client, I chose Guest OS...Install VMware Tools... copied the VM*.tar.gz into /tmp and ran tar -zxvf VMwareTools-10.1.7-5541682.tar.gz   (This version of VMware Tools is what is on the other VMs)

Everything was run according to the instructions I have but the results did not turn out the same.

I am wondering what I've missed or what else I need to do to get the configuration to complete successfully?

Thanks for the help.
