vSphere Components Startup/Shutdown Order

I was just wondering as our vSphere environment gets more and more complex, using a variety of different vSphere products, if anyone has done a shutdown or startup order guide for the whole thing. Let's pretend we need to move our hardware into another DC and need to shut down everything and bring it back up afterwards. What would be the corrent stop/start oder for all the vSphere products? In our case these would be the following:

  • vCenter Server (what if it has been clustered, or deployed with an external PSC? What about loadbalancers for the external PSCs if they are also clustered?)
  • vSphere Replication
  • VDP
  • NSX Manager (Guest Introspection Agents are being shut down / started up with the hosts I guess)
  • Update Manager

The same questions applies to updates. Which components need to be updated first/last? Also, are there dependencies between the different services, so when I need to reboot one of them, do I have to reboot the others as well?

I'm pretty sure you can get these information from the deployment manual for each individual product but I have not yet seen anything that focuses on the environment as a whole.

Has anyone done this kind of overview?
